A/B Møllen has been using Anyhoa for a long time, and when the HOA won ABF’s “HOA of the Year” award in 2024, we got the chance to ask them what it takes to stand out as a truly exceptional association.
The organization and Anyhoa launch the first HOA websites and begin inviting co-ops to join the platform.
A/B Møllen is one of the first co-ops to have its own dedicated HOA website.
A/B Møllen builds their site and adds the content they want to share with visitors.
It wasn’t because of the website but A/B Møllen is an outstanding association with a strong sense of community, and a HOA organization recognized that.
“We have a wide range of shared activities—from nature outings and willow weaving workshops to movie nights, men’s choir, dance evenings, big-screen events, and shared gardening days. Usually, 24 or 25 of our 26 residents take part, both in the fun stuff and the more practical work,” says board chair Torben.
A/B Møllen uses their website to present their community beautifully to the outside world.
The social element is essential in their community, and photos from fun events help bring it all to life.
Willow weaving workshops, movie nights, men’s choir, dance evenings, big-screen gatherings, and shared gardening—A/B Møllen is full of joyful events and active participation.
The community has built a foundation where everyone knows each other. It’s not about maximizing profit, and according to board chair Torben Johannesen, they don’t use a valuer-based appraisal—they stick to the public assessment. A/B Møllen’s financial approach is rooted in thoughtfulness: maintenance is top-notch, and the HOA’s finances are in good shape.
One of the reasons A/B Møllen was recognized as Co-op of the Year 2024 is its vibrant social life. The board chair explains how both the board and the residents work together to build a strong community by sharing the load—no one carries the responsibility alone. They hold at least four community meetings a year, one annual general meeting, and ongoing activities open to all residents, regardless of age or physical ability.
“We have a wide range of shared activities—from nature outings and willow weaving workshops to movie nights, men’s choir, dance evenings, big-screen events, and community gardening. Often, 24 or 25 of the 26 residents take part, both in the fun and the necessary,” says Torben.
This mindset—that all activities matter and should be accessible to everyone—creates a sense of togetherness rarely seen in larger communities. You can feel that the sense of community isn’t just something they talk about—it’s something they practice. Everyday tasks like gardening, mowing the lawn, clearing snow, and even bigger projects like building bike sheds are tackled together. No one is expected to do more than they can.
A/B Møllen’s success doesn’t depend on having a website. But it does help bring residents together in a digital community and lets them showcase that community to the world.
